Giant Marx Troops

2/10/2017 Add Comment

Semi-gloss olive drab bunkers.

Troops are mostly copies of Marx 1/72nd scale, by Giant of Hong Kong.  Long out of production.

Strong points are defended by infantry.

I got these troops at least 40 years ago.

They are very difficult to find now.

155 Howitzer

Sometimes when I buy something off eBay I get a collection of items but don't intend to get them all.

These two 155 howitzers are a good example.

I had no intention of getting them but they each came with other stuff I wanted.

They also have subtle differences, like the shell holders.

One is circles and one is an open bay.

They are not bad, but surplus to my needs.

The Alternate Endings...

The helicopter takes the sick native back to the hospital.

OR Superman arrives to assess the situation.

Seeing the man is sick Superman knows he has to take the native back to the hospital.

Superman carries the ill man back to the hospital where he can get better.

OR a military chopper arrives when aid is requested for a sick native.

Troops wearing protective gear get out and test the air.

Fearing a worldwide outbreak, the village must be cleansed.

Flamethrowers destroy everything.

Doctors Arrive

The natives are worried about the newcomer.

In the meantime they try and salvage his canoe.

The helicopter lands in the clearing.

The Army supports the outpost.

A couple doctors from the city arrive and air force men deploy around the helicopter.

In these primitive jungle conditions you have to make sure the bird is in perfect working order.

The doctors consult with Davey about the man's condition.

The captain reviews the checklist for helicopter maintenance.

The Jungle Outpost

One of the men from the outpost and a native try to intercept the canoe.

They reach the canoe just as the water is getting rough.

The native stays with the raft.

The man from the outpost transferres to the canoe and brings it back to shore.

They get a stretcher for the unconscious native.

They take him back to the outpost, but whatever is wrong with him is too hard for them to treat.

They need to call for outside help.

Canoe Adventure

Davey was raised in these woods, so he knew every tree.

While the soldiers and natives were struggling with the quicksand...

The man in the canoe continued to drift downstream.

Davey got help and the gathered up the raft to try and rescue him.

The man was alive, but he seemed very weak.

He was helpless to stop his canoe from being swept downstream.

The canoe is taking on water.  Soon it will sink.

Davey tries to swim for it, but the current is just too strong.

Marx Recasts

One of the fun things about 60mm figures is the accessories. I like the extra weapons, gear and equipment that we can get in this scale. Here is a large bazooka I got in the mail today. It is a re-cast of the old Marx set.

This Tim Mee officer figure is with a .30 caliber machine gun.

A nice recoilless rifle, these small arms are really good weapons, they turn on the tripod.

.30 caliber water cooled machine gun. These M1917A1 guns were in service for probably 50 years with the US Army. Marx made loads of different accessories for many periods. I have been buying both originals and recasts recently. I will have more photos of them soon.
