Land Train

In the 1950's the US Army wanted a Land Train.  They needed to get supplies to Arctic and desert outposts with few or no roads.  So a giant vehicle that could carry up to 150 tons was developed.

I use several kinds of wooden parts I got from Hobby Lobby.

This is a diesel power unit from an HO scale train.  I got it used at a train show.

Add the wooden wheels.

And a bit of a cab from a caboose.

Quick mock up version to test the feasibility.  It's probably do-able.

In the 1950s the US Army was concerned about having to move masses of equipment and supplies in the Arctic or across Siberia.

They came up with a series of vehicles designed to carry massive loads over rugged terrain.

So I have been putting together bits and pieces of plastic and wooden parts to make one of these vehicles.

I am using a train caboose cab for the cab on the vehicle.

I am using wooden wheels for the vehicle.

I still have to get a few more wheels and make the cargo carriers.  It's a long term project.
