Ape Army

The Sergeant listens while the General speaks.

The gorilla troopers know that when the General speaks to the Sergeant, it means work for them.

"Well, you know one of us won't be here much longer, or maybe both of us," the Soldier said.

"Well, I am glad it was his turn for KP duty, and not mine...."
Hasbro, Planet of the Apes figures in 1/6th scale, same as GI Joe. Some things are the same in every army.

POTA Female Gorilla

Figure conversions don't have to be limited to small plastic figures. This is the clothing for a 1/6th scale Hasbro Zira figure. Zira is a female chimpanzee from Planet of the Apes. I wanted to create a gorilla female for the same movie. There was no female gorilla in any of the movies as far as I have been able to determine.

The Zira figure is light skinned, so I had to paint the hands of the gorilla female. I used the Zira body, but the head of a male gorilla soldier.

I painted the hands and wrists using red brown paint and then overpainted with smoke.

Red brown is a very useful color for leather and hair. The smoke is a sort of semi-clear dark gray.

After I dyed the Zira outfit using Rit fabric dye and replaced the head with a male gorilla head and painted the hands, this is the result. The Zira is on the right and the female gorilla is on the far left. I used Wine color dye for the fabric and the plastic bits dyed too. It turned out really well and I am considering doing another one, and perhaps some in all black too.

Great Lawgiver

The Gorilla General, his Sergeant and one of his Soldiers pose for photos after the human hunt.

With the statue of the Great Lawgiver in the distance, the Gorilla Army Apes pose for pictures.

A female Gorilla and female Chimpanzee visit the soldiers.

Gorilla Soldiers are always popular with the females.

The Gorilla Female is a Hasbro Zira that has had the head replaced with the head from a Hasbro Gorilla Soldier. The hands have been repainted dark brown and smoke. The boots are from the Hasbro Zira and are the same color as those on the Hasbro Gorilla Soldier figure. The Zira green clothing has been re-dyed in Rit Wine dye, including the vinyl parts. These figures are all over ten years old and are in 1/6th scale, the same size as GI Joe. Great Lawgiver from Medicom and is a bit smaller.

Hasbro Apes in GI Joe Size Adventures

Human vs Ape on a world turned upside down. Apes rule!

The Gorilla Sergeant shouts out to the human.

The Gorilla General directs his Soldier and Sergeant to chase the human. A human dressed like an Ape!

The Gorillas are observed by the Orangutan and two Chimpanzees.

This time the Human escapes, but it is seldom so on the Planet of the Apes!

Apes!

The Apes are out looking for humans.

The Chimpanzees plead with the Gorillas to spare the lives of the humans.

The sight and sound of Apes who can speak and hunt humans is a shocking one to an American astronaut.

These 1/6th scale Planet of the Apes figures are based on the original 1968 movie. They were made by Hasbro about 20 years ago, using basic GI Joe bodies and a female body.

While Chimpanzee Cornelius holds a Scared Scroll, the Gorillas move up towards the humans with guns and nets. A dangerous time to be a man.

One of the fun things about re-organizing the collection is finding things I have not touched in years. These are my Hasbro 1/6th scale Planet of the Apes figures. They are GI Joe size action figures based on the movies from the late 1960's and early 1970's. Here a group of Apes is out in the field searching for humans.

Col. Taylor, one of the humans from 20th Century Earth is on the run.

After travelling in space for six months, Taylor and his team land on the Planet of the Apes.

Here a Gorilla Sergeant readies his net for capturing man.

A Gorilla Soldier, General lead a couple Chimpanzees and an Orangutan; on a planet where men are hunted for sport and experimented on by Ape doctors.
